Newcastle’s nightlife is renowned for being second to none. The city built it’s party reputation off northerners who love a drink or two, and clubs / bars that offer some of the best vibes in the country.
The friendly environment makes for a relaxed and enjoyable vibe, while the historical features still bring the masses to explore and indulge. The architecture is incredible, and the northern pride is stuff of legend. Then of course there is the football – who doesn’t love rowdy Geordies cheering on their beloved team throughout the pubs that line the Quayside. There are several different sought out areas in Newcastle, all of which are great for drinking, wandering and eating your way through. Each contributes its own personality to the city.
The Diamond Strip is the summation of a night out in the ’Toon, while the Bigg Market will give you a taste of the local culture. Jesmond has always been considered the up and coming area, full of boutique shops, bars and clubs. The Quayside is perfect to take on the sights and sounds of Newcastle, with exhibitions and famous architecture bordering both sides. According to the website chillisauce.com – Newcastle was the premier destination for Stag do’s in 2018 (from their data booking conclusions). Theres no guess why this northern gem is the top choice of holidayers year round.
When to go?
Newcastle like we have mentioned is one of the best party cities in the UK so there is always something going on especially March – December. Some of the best times to visit include the football team Newcastle United playing at home (Bi-weekly), Bank holidays in April/May/August, St Patricks weekend, any summer weekend and Christmas. When the weather is nice you can expect to see bars jumping from 12noon Friday until Sunday night with plenty of day drinking and stag/hen atmosphere around. There is also a beautiful coastline which can be easily reached by Metro in around 15 minutes from the city centre and again has plenty of watering holes for the summer days.
How many days?
If you are coming to sample the bars, restaurants and nightlife 2-3 nights is sufficient to get a feel of the city centre and landmarks. If you are wanting to learn about the history and see more surrounding areas such as the coastline then we would suggest a couple days longer but this could also be split up into two separate trips if you live in the UK and it is easy enough to come back.
How safe is it?
Newcastle is very safe and the Geordies are very welcoming and friendly people up for a drink and a laugh with strangers. Common sense prevails for walking around in the early hours on your own in alleys or less public areas.
